Hi, I’m Joel. I’m a teacher, writer, photographer, and about a dozen other things on any given day, all of which boil down to – I’m a guy who likes to make things and then tell people about them. I’ve collected most of the various projects and organizations I’m involved with on this page for posterity’s sake. If you’d like me to work with you on a project, please use the contact form. I’d love to work with you.
Over the years, I’ve written a lot about Japan, music, photography, life, and all kinds of other things. I do write for hire and my rates are very reasonable. Click through the links below for examples of my work.
I’ve also written a few stories over the years and am currently working on a novel, which, hopefully, one day, will grace this list with its presence.
These days most of my photographic work appears alongside the articles I write for Samurai Trip and Taiken, but lots of other work can be found on Instagram and Flickr. Also, I have created a select few prints and sundry items through Society 6. Please browse through the gallery below and click on the “Available for Purchase” link in the bottom left corner of the image. Thanks!
Things to Know
Affiliations – By and large, any link on this site that takes you to a website where you can buy something, be it a product, service, or rare antiquity, is an affiliate link. What does that mean? For example, let’s say you’re really interested in a book you read about on this site. You click the link and it takes you to Amazon. You buy the book. Yeah! On the back end, out of view of the public, Amazon gives me a small percentage of that sale. In other words, buy buying a book through a link on this site, you’re giving me a little bit of money. I hope that’s ok with you.
I can promise you that any affiliate link you see on this site is something I actually use and recommend. It’s not spam, it’s never going to be something I list just to make money. It will always be something I honestly stand behind. The only other thing I can promise is to be transparent about it.
